“I’m 17 and a loyal Corrie viewer — the backlash against teen plots is completely overblown.”

“Viewers have recently voiced complaints about Coronation Street’s teen storylines.”

A 17-year-old Coronation Street fan has spoken out about teen storylines following Aadi Alahan’s recent house party.

In the episode that aired on Monday, June 23, Aadi threw a party at his dad Dev’s house, inviting several of Weatherfield’s younger residents — including Betsy and Lauren.

However, things quickly spiralled out of control, with the teens’ reckless behaviour leading to serious consequences.

Here’s what happened on Monday night’s episode of Coronation Street

In the June 23 episode, Aadi Alahan organised a house party at his dad Dev’s home, bringing together several of Weatherfield’s teens for what was meant to be a fun evening.

Among the guests were Asha, Nina, Summer, Betsy, Lauren, and Amy. Everything seemed to be going smoothly — until Dylan unexpectedly brought Brody along, who hadn’t been invited.

Brody caused disruption after Aadi caught him trying to sell LSD to other guests. Furious, Aadi confiscated the drugs and demanded Brody leave immediately.

After Brody’s departure, Aadi, Nina, and Summer gathered in the kitchen to make drinks. They made the reckless decision to add LSD to their drinks for a more “fun” experience.

Before Aadi could take his drink, he was distracted by an incident and left the room. When he returned, he noticed his drink was missing.

Worried that someone may have taken it by mistake, Aadi began asking around to check if any of the guests were feeling unwell, hoping to figure out who may have been spiked.

Outside, Lauren began to feel strange and unwell. She started hallucinating — seeing disturbing visions of the late Joel. Panicked and desperate to escape, she broke into Underworld in a distressed state.

Meanwhile, Nina and Summer were left horrified, fearing that someone might be seriously hurt — or worse.

Coronation Street Fans Voice Frustration Over Teen Storylines

Monday night’s episode of Coronation Street sparked backlash on social media, with some viewers expressing concern that the soap is drifting away from its core audience by focusing too much on teenage plots.

One fan wrote: “No more teens or young characters, please. I want Rita at the Kabin, and more of Evelyn and Roy — not this youth [bleep].”

Another viewer added: “I’m not sure who the Corrie writers are catering to anymore, but it’s clearly not the long-time audience. This teen party storyline is painful to watch. Teenagers don’t even watch Corrie — and adults who do don’t want this nonsense. Come on Corrie, do better.”

A third fan questioned the show’s direction entirely, commenting: “What’s happened to Corrie? It’s starting to feel like a bad teen sitcom.”

Young Coronation Street Viewer Defends Teen Storylines

Despite recent backlash from some viewers, it’s clear that younger fans are in favour of Coronation Street’s teen-focused plots. We spoke to Darcy, a 17-year-old passionate fan of the show, who shared her perspective on the importance of including teenage storylines in the soap.

Darcy said: “It’s important that soaps include storylines based on teenagers’ lives because it makes the show more realistic and helps educate both teens and adults.”

She also added that “Coronation Street is a powerful platform to represent teenagers and give them a voice.”

Darcy went on to explain how these plots can have a meaningful impact: “Teen storylines can be relatable and supportive for young people who may be struggling or afraid to speak up. A great example is the bullying storyline involving Liam and Mason.”

According to Darcy, these kinds of stories don’t just benefit individuals — they also help build stronger connections between generations: “They open up conversations between family members who watch the show together, and help Coronation Street grow its fanbase.”

She added: “Teenage storylines can be inspiring and have a positive impact on young people’s mindset.”

Darcy concluded: “Seeing stories centred around teenage characters is entertaining for younger viewers. It also reassures parents, as Coronation Street delivers meaningful, educational plots rather than ones that might encourage harmful choices. These storylines can genuinely help teens learn and grow.”
