General Hospital Spoilers: Eva LaRue’s Controversial Character Natalia Ramirez Bids Farewell One Year After Arrival

General Hospital (GH) spoilers confirm that Natalia Rogers-Ramirez (Eva LaRue) has made her exit. In the June 30 episode, viewers watched as the troubled character downed a handful of pills with alcohol, leading to her collapse and apparent overdose.

Eva LaRue shared that her time on GH was an “awesome experience,” though her character struggled to connect with fans and now departs the show just a year after her debut.

Eva LaRue Says Goodbye to GH

Natalia was introduced with plenty of emotional baggage, portrayed as the “judgmental and homophobic mother of Blaze,” played by Jacqueline Grace Lopez. According to Entertainment Weekly, her character quickly became one of the most disliked among longtime soap viewers.

Executive producer Frank Valentini told the outlet, “Eva’s been a dear friend for years, and I’m so glad we had the chance to work together.” He added, “What started as a short guest arc evolved into something deeper and more meaningful, thanks to Eva’s outstanding performance and her chemistry with the rest of our cast.”

“I was delighted that Eva was available for this extended storyline,” said the showrunner. “I wish her nothing but success in her future endeavors.”

Eva LaRue’s Soap Legacy

LaRue told Soap Opera Digest that her original contract was only for two months—but that short-term role ultimately stretched into a full year.

The daytime veteran is best known for her role as Maria Santos Grey on All My Children, and with so many former AMC stars currently appearing on General Hospital, LaRue said being on set felt “like coming home.”

Natalia’s impulsive decisions on the show were partly driven by her interactions with mob boss Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), who treated her harshly.

Was Sonny to Blame?

According to LaRue, the show made efforts to give Natalia a redemption arc. “They tried to turn things around for my character,” she explained. “But then in January, I had these scenes where, because Natalia had lied about her ex and lost his trust, Sonny basically said, ‘We can’t be friends anymore.’”

She explained that once her character’s friendship with Sonny ended, she sensed it was only a matter of time before Natalia would be written out. LaRue admitted the audience never really embraced the character. “They didn’t want Natalia around Sonny—people just hated her. I was completely vilified,” she confessed.

Eva LaRue’s Roots on All My Children

LaRue, known for her iconic role as Maria Santos Grey on All My Children, acknowledged that while fans were not fond of Natalia, she personally had a great time on General Hospital.

“The GH audience couldn’t stand [Natalia],” she said, laughing. “But I honestly had a blast. I loved being on General Hospital, I had some amazing scenes, and I really enjoyed working with everyone there. It was such a great experience, and I was thrilled to be able to stay longer than originally planned.”
