Two iconic Emmerdale characters are headed for a hospital dash in dramatic upcoming scenes, as one collapses while driving. Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) and Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) face a terrifying ordeal when Gabby’s obsession with her appearance puts both of their lives at serious risk on the ITV soap.
As her engagement party approaches, bride-to-be Gabby becomes increasingly anxious about fitting into her dress. In a bid to squeeze into a gown she mistakenly ordered in the wrong size, she resorts to a crash diet—cutting out food and relying solely on coffee.
At the same time, Sarah meets Gabby at the garage and agrees to accompany her on a diagnostic test drive to uncover an issue with her car. But as they cruise along quiet country roads, disaster strikes—Gabby begins to feel faint and suddenly loses consciousness behind the wheel.
Fortunately, Sarah’s quick reflexes help avert a tragic outcome, as she manages to reach over and bring the car to a stop. But the heroic move comes at a painful cost—she’s still recovering from a recent hysterectomy, and the effort leaves her in agony. Despite her pain, Sarah gets them both to the hospital, where they arrive in a worrying condition.
Speaking to the press, Rosie explained: “She’s drinking an excessive amount of coffee, influenced by Bradley Riches’ character, Lewis, who suggests it helps kickstart the system.
“So Gabby’s guzzling coffee, obsessively working out, and throwing herself into fitness while completely ignoring her responsibilities as a mum. Exercise becomes her top priority, above everything else.”
“Luckily, there isn’t a crash, but Sarah ends up seriously hurting herself, which adds even more complications to her recovery,” Rosie shared.
She continued: “At the hospital, Gabby is told she’s suffering from low blood sugar. The women around her make it clear how reckless she’s been, risking her health and her life for the sake of a single day and a dress. Then Vinny shows up and gives her a reality check. That conversation strengthens their commitment to getting married and re-evaluating their priorities.”
Gabby and Vinny revealed their engagement back in April, catching both Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) and Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) off guard. The announcement raised eyebrows, as both women were concerned that the couple might be rushing into marriage too soon.
