In last night’s episode of EastEnders (Monday, April 28), Nicola Mitchell took on the role of gravedigger after discovering that her accomplice, Benji, had buried murder victim Shireen’s body along with a piece of evidence that could link her to the crime.
Realizing the danger of the evidence, Nicola decided to take matters into her own hands, which meant getting dirty. Armed with a shovel, she went to Paradise Park to dig up the body.
As she ranted about the lengths she had gone to in order to protect her family, Teddy showed up and reassured her that he would stand by her no matter what. The scene was intense but also filled with some of the most ridiculous moments the show has ever seen.
Fans quickly pointed out the many things that didn’t add up regarding Nicola’s dramatic digging.
In EastEnders, when Nicola Mitchell arrived at Paradise Park, she followed a map on her phone to a specific spot—a patch of dirt that appeared to be on a rocky path.
While it’s clear she had a GPS location for Shireen’s body, the question arose: how did she know exactly where to begin digging?
“Did I miss something… How did Nicola know exactly where to dig?” one fan asked on X.
The app visible on Nicola’s phone was What3Words, a geocaching system that pinpoints any location on Earth within three meters. However, fans were left wondering how she managed to dig in the right spot so quickly—unless Benji had only buried Shireen a few inches under the surface, that is.
As Nicola dug up Shireen’s body, she delivered a villainous monologue, shouting the details of the murder into the night. “The first time Harry brought you home, I could see it on his face. You had him wrapped around your finger,” she ranted.
“Even when you two were fighting like cats and dogs, you still had him. You were going to break his heart, and I ended up doing it for you,” she added.
She then explained her motive: “Maybe it was too much like looking in a mirror for me. You were going to ruin Harry’s life! And you knew too much. Sooner or later… you would’ve told Teddy that Barney wasn’t his. Whether out of spite or anger, or maybe from the goodness of your heart… but I couldn’t let that happen. You would have torn us apart.”
Screaming and shouting as she worked, it was lucky no one was around to overhear her confession. Which brings up another question…
How did Teddy not hear Nicola’s confession?
Just moments later, Teddy showed up at the scene, seemingly unaware of everything Nicola had just shouted, despite the otherwise quiet park and her loud ranting.
“I had no idea Teddy had hearing issues until tonight. She was so loud I think even Barney could’ve heard her,” one fan joked on Reddit.
Another fan commented, “I was thinking, if you’re digging up a body, shouldn’t you be as quiet as possible? Yet Nicola’s over here shouting and ranting while she digs!”
A fan theory has emerged suggesting that Shireen may still be alive and potentially working with Benji. Given that Nicola’s late-night digging could end up being pointless, fans are questioning why Benji would even tell her about the bracelet, allowing her to dig it up herself.
Could Shireen, as one theory proposes, be collaborating with Benji to bring Nicola down? Many fans are skeptical, especially considering they wouldn’t trust Benji any further than they could throw him.
