EastEnders’ Shane Richie Teases Explosive Drama with Former Love Interest in Upcoming Plot

EastEnders icon Shane Richie, who plays Alfie Moon, has spoken out about a huge new storyline that is set to hit the square in the coming months and will run until 2026

Alfie Moon star Shane Richie has dropped some serious hints about an upcoming EastEnders storyline.

While speaking with The Mirror at The British Soap Awards 2025 the Walford icon teased that there are massive scenes ahead, hinting at a storyline that could even eclipse the soap’s 40th anniversary celebrations.

He let slip that this major plot would unfold over several months and spill into the following year. While he kept quiet on the specifics, he did suggest “fireworks” were in store.

Shane shared that new producer Ben Wadey has grand plans for EastEnders: “He has told me some things. I said: ‘Let me sit down’.”

“There’s fireworks, there’s Kat and Alfie. There is a story that is about to kick in, which will carry on through to after Christmas. Honestly it’s a big story. If you thought the 40th was big wait until you see this story. That’s all I’m saying,” reports the Mirror.

Fans are speculating that Kat’s daughter Zoe could potentially returning to Albert Square after years away. Michelle Ryan, who hasn’t been on the show since 2005, is rumoured to be stepping back into Zoe’s shoes, which might just be the bombshell Shane alluded to.

Shane also expressed his eagerness for a Spencer Moon return, following a recent nod to the character on the show when his partner Vicki Fowler made her own dramatic return after two decades.

Shane is crossing his fingers for a family reunion on the Square, hoping Alfie will see his brother again: “I would like him to come back. One of my sons keeps in touch with Christopher [Parker], but he’s a lawyer now.”

“He flies between LA and London. I would love to think that one day they might bring back Spencer, but so much is going on at the moment. Alfie could probably do without that.”

This speculation comes as The Sun has reported that Michelle Ryan is set to return as Zoe, although the BBC soap hasn’t confirmed the news yet. A source told the publication that it was “the perfect moment” for her comeback and the timing “felt right”.

They claimed: “Bosses have repeatedly reached out to Michelle over the years, but the timing has never been quite right. People are still talking about her character, so it’s a real coup to bring her back.

“She feels like now is the perfect moment – and there was an exciting script on the table.”
