“EastEnders’ Ronnie actress hints at Mitchell sisters making a comeback despite pool tragedy”

EXCLUSIVE: Samantha Womack, who played Ronnie Mitchell, has spoken exclusively to the Daily Star about her character and teased a possible return for her and Roxy in a surprising twist…

Samantha Womack has suggested that Ronnie Mitchell could make a return to EastEnders.
The fan-favourite character met a tragic end on New Year’s Day 2017, when she and her sister Roxy, played by Rita Simons, drowned after jumping into a pool following a night of drinking.

But in an exclusive interview with the Daily Star, Samantha hinted that the iconic blonde sisters might make a comeback to the soap in a surprising twist.

She told us: “Honestly, I’d go even further and say—what if they came up with some fabricated storyline where our deaths were staged? Like maybe he gave us those drugs that make your heart stop for five minutes?”

“We could have vanished back to Ibiza — who knows? Honestly, I’d never rule anything out now. At the time, it didn’t feel right for me to stay in that role, because I’d been there so long. You start to get complacent and comfortable earning a steady income, which isn’t typical for a self-employed artist.”

“Over time, you begin to lose your creativity and become more fearful […] Looking back, I’m really glad I left. It gave me time to reflect and appreciate just how special that chapter of my life was.”

Samantha shared that she “loved everyone there” — from her fellow cast members to the camera crew and makeup team — describing them as “like family,” and saying that leaving them was the most difficult part of walking away from the role.

“It honestly felt like leaving a strange little family. Still, I’m glad it happened. And I’d never rule anything out — I’m not exactly rolling in money!”

Breast cancer survivor Samantha Womack is now advocating for women to inquire about their breast density after having a mammogram. She highlights that even if you’re given the all-clear, it doesn’t always guarantee you’re cancer-free — as dense breast tissue can make it more difficult to detect cancer, increasing the risk of it being overlooked.

In the UK, women are not routinely told their breast density after a mammogram, and no extra imaging is currently provided for those with dense breast tissue. However, GenesisCare is taking the initiative to inform every woman who has a mammogram about their breast density score.

Samantha says: “It’s unbelievable that this information isn’t routinely given to all women — so well done to GenesisCare for leading the way on such an important issue.”

She adds: “I want women to be aware of the risks associated with dense breasts and to feel empowered to ask questions after their mammogram. This way, they can make informed choices about whether to pursue further tests. Don’t hesitate to speak up — it could save your life.”

The Keep Abreast of Your Breast Density campaign not only raises awareness about the risks but also empowers women to ask important questions that could save their lives. Knowledge is power, and without it, tumors can go undetected.

GenesisCare has introduced a new screening option where women with dense breast tissue can access rapid breast MRI scans for early cancer detection. These scans, typically reserved for those at very high risk, are now available privately at GenesisCare centers in Oxford and Windsor.
