“Coronation Street star Craig Charles raised health concerns after suddenly withdrawing from a major fan convention.”

Coronation Street actor Craig Charles has caused concern after revealing he had to cancel his scheduled appearance at the London Film and Comic Con due to becoming “violently ill.”
Best known for portraying Lloyd Mullaney on the long-running soap, Charles was set to attend the convention as part of the Red Dwarf lineup, appearing as his beloved character Dave Lister.
He had been due to meet fans at the UK’s largest fan convention alongside fellow Red Dwarf cast members Danny John-Jules, Robert Llewellyn, and Hattie Hayridge.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the 60-year-old shared the news: “Apologies to Showmasters and all the fans at Comic Con. I made it to the hotel, but woke up at 3 a.m. with severe stomach pain.
“After being violently sick for hours—trust me, it wasn’t pretty—I hoped it might pass, but by 10 a.m., I had to call it off and return to Manchester.”

Craig went on to say: “I’m feeling a bit better now and keeping hydrated with water and electrolytes. Once again, I’m sorry for the cancellation and hope to see everyone next time.”
While many fans expressed their support and well-wishes for the actor, his announcement also led to some confusion, as event organisers initially cited a different reason for his absence.
On their official Facebook page, London Film and Comic Con claimed: “We got in touch with Craig at 9 a.m. and were told he had a family emergency and would arrive by 11 a.m. At 11:30, we knocked on his hotel room door for 20 minutes with no response.
“His Red Dwarf co-stars eventually reached him at 12:30, at which point he confirmed he was unwell and unable to attend. These are the facts.”
They added: “The group photo session will still take place with Danny, Robert, and Hattie, and those who purchased tickets will automatically receive a £60 refund to reflect the change in lineup.”
I’d just like to say sorry to showmasters and the fans at comicon. I made it to the hotel but woke up at 3 this morning with stomach pains. I then proceeded to be violently ill for hours. Not a pretty sight. I tried to see if it would wear off but at 10 am I called it off and…

“Anyone who no longer wishes to participate in the group photo will have their unused tickets automatically refunded after the event,” the organisers added.
Following the confusion, fans were quick to rally behind Craig, criticising the now-deleted Facebook post made by the event organisers. One supporter wrote: “I felt awful for you after seeing how they handled it on Facebook. It came across as really unprofessional and immature. I just hoped you were okay and wish you a speedy recovery.”
Another added: “You have absolutely nothing to apologise for, Craig. It’s Showmasters who owe you an apology after posting that video outside your hotel room.”
A fellow Red Dwarf fan commented: “There’s no need to say sorry, Craig. I couldn’t attend, but as a fan, I’m disappointed in how they treated you. We all know you wouldn’t pull out unless it was completely necessary.”
