Gary Windass has been left fighting for survival on Coronation Street – and fans are convinced they know the real story.

Fans believe they’ve uncovered the truth behind Gary Windass’ (Mikey North) shock hospitalization in Coronation Street.
On Wednesday’s episode, Gary’s absence raised concern among Weatherfield residents as Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall) celebrated his birthday without him.
Viewers saw Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) and Kirk Sutherland (Andy Whyment) grow increasingly worried after realizing no one had heard from Gary—unaware that he was actually in a coma, critically injured after a mysterious attack.
Although someone has been using Gary’s phone to make it seem like he’s fine, suspicions are mounting as he hasn’t been seen anywhere on the Cobbles. While fans know Gary is in hospital on a ventilator, they’ve all been left puzzled by the same glaring issue—pointing out a major Coronation Street oversight.
Viewers are questioning why the hospital hasn’t informed Maria, his next of kin, sparking confusion over the lack of contact during such a serious medical crisis.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), one viewer questioned: “So Gary is in hospital but why hasn’t Maria been contacted?? #Corrie.”
Another echoed the confusion: “Gary’s in hospital and no one’s informed his next of kin? Surely Maria is listed as an emergency contact, so why hasn’t she been notified? It all feels a bit suspicious… #coronationstreet #corrie.”
A third added their frustration: “So Gary Windass is seriously ill in hospital and somehow no one knows who he is? This is the same Gary who served in the British Army and would have had his DNA recorded, not to mention a criminal history with fingerprints on file. And yet, he’s still a John Doe? Do the writers even fact-check?”
However, spoilers have revealed that the mystery person—believed to be a woman—gave hospital staff a false name for Gary and claimed to be his next of kin, preventing the police from contacting his real family.
Meanwhile, some Coronation Street fans believe they’ve already figured out what really happened to Gary and who’s behind the attack. Social media is buzzing with theories as viewers try to “unmask” the attacker and the person sending messages from Gary’s phone.
One fan speculated: “So when are we going to find out that it was Brody who attacked Gary, stole his phone, and gave it to his mum—who’s now texting Maria because she knows Gary’s password? #corrie #coronationstreet.”
Another wrote: “I don’t think it’s Summer or Nina who were involved in what happened to Gary—so who’s been using his phone? #corrie.”
A third fan claimed: “Lou is definitely lying—she’s got Gary’s phone for sure. #Corrie #CoronationStreet @itvcorrie.”
