Coronation Street fans criticized Kevin Webster for deceiving his wife Abi about not having received the all-clear for his cancer.
On last night’s episode (Wednesday, July 2) on the cobbles, Kevin told Abi he needed further treatment, even though Dr. Gaddas had just congratulated him on his good cancer results.
This occurred after Kevin grew suspicious of Abi and Carl, leading him to take drastic steps to keep Abi close to him.
Kevin deceives Abi about his cancer results on Coronation Street
Last night, Kevin grew worried that Abi might be cheating on him—or about to—after discovering a flirtatious message from Carl on her phone.
Fearing Abi would leave him for his brother once he got the all-clear, Kevin lied, telling her he had received a disappointing result.
He claimed he was not cancer-free and still required more treatment. This deception came after Abi confided to Carl that Kevin being clear of cancer would be the “green light” for her to explore a relationship with Carl.
However, viewers soon learned that Kevin was actually cancer-free, when Dr. Gaddas bumped into him and congratulated him.
Kevin then asked her not to tell Abi the good news so as not to “ruin the surprise,” though it was clear he had no intention of telling Abi the truth anytime soon.
Coronation Street fans criticize Kevin for his terrible cancer lie
Fans of Coronation Street believe Kevin’s big lie will ultimately backfire, giving Abi a reason to walk away once the truth comes out.
One Reddit user commented: “The way he lied to Abi tonight was so predictable. But everything’s going to fall apart when she finds out. She might discover it herself or his brother could spill the truth and use it to try to win her over.”
Another added: “As soon as Abi learns he’s been lying, she’s going to give in to Carl.”
A third joked: “Once Kevin’s deceit is uncovered, Abi will be sliding down Carl’s pole faster than a fireman.”
