Coronation Street Icon Secures Major Role in Upcoming Keanu Reeves Film

A Coronation Street actress is set to join Keanu Reeves and Anjelica Huston in a new Hollywood blockbuster, in what will be the most high profile project of her career to date

Corrie legend Tracie Bennett is set to hit the big screen. The actress has a starring role alongside Keanu Reeves and Anjelica Huston in new Hollywood blockbuster Ballerina. It’s the most high profile project of her career so far.

Tracie stars as a phone operator working for a group of assassins.

An insider said: “Tracie plays a no-nonsense woman called Muriel, who is a chain smoker covered in tattoos. She helps her bosses inform assassins about targets. It’s a small but key role and Tracie is fantastic in her scenes.”

Tracie has been acting since the early 80s with roles in a string of films and TV shows. But she’s best known for her years as Sharon Bentley in Coronation Street between 1982 and 1984 as well as stints in 1999 and 2021.

Ballerina, which is the latest flick in the John Wick franchise, hit cinemas on Friday. It also stars Lovejoy legend Ian McShane and James Bond actress Ana de Armas.

Tracie is the latest Corrie star to make it in Hollywood. Last year Dean Fagan was on the big screen in Gladiator II.

The hunk is known to millions for playing mechanic Luke Britton on Corrie years ago. But in Gladiators II he had a very different role as a prisoner called Dorso.

Dean admitted he was thrilled to get a role in a such a big blockbuster. He said: “Never thought I would have the opportunity to work on a sequel to one of the greatest films ever made. It was every bit as good as I imagined it to be. A wild ride and a dream come true.”

Dean was in many scenes with leading man Paul Mescal, who played Lucius Verus in the film.

He added: “The wonderfully talented cast, stunts and crew who work unbelievably hard to bring these films to life, it was a privilege to meet and work alongside you.”

Plenty of other soap stars have had global success in recent years.

Hollyoaks actress Nathalie Emmanuel has starred in The Fast and The Furious franchise and EastEnders actor Ben Hardy was in an X-Men flick.

Others to secure high profile roles include Hollyoaks actor Barry Sloane, who starred in hit TV series Revenge, and EastEnders actor Himesh Patel, who has had roles in a string of big movies.
