There were tears shed.
Coronation Street fans are devastated by the death of beloved Weatherfield character Julie Carp. Julie’s battle with cancer tragically ended on Monday, May 5, during a day out with her sister Eileen. Fans have expressed their disappointment, calling her death an unfortunate decision and arguing that she “didn’t deserve” to be written off.

Julie Carp’s death on Coronation Street came after she revealed her terminal cancer diagnosis months ago, following a chance encounter with Todd at Chariot Square Hotel. Eileen discovered Julie’s condition when she saw her planning her funeral at Shuttleworth’s. Since then, Julie focused on making the most of her remaining time.
In last night’s episode, Julie recorded farewell videos for Eileen before they went on a day trip to the lakes together. While there, Julie asked Eileen to prepare a cup of tea just the way she liked it. When Eileen returned, she found Julie lying on the floor with her eyes closed.
Paramedics who arrived on the scene noticed a DNR tag on Julie and informed Eileen that there was nothing they could do to save her. Julie had passed away.
The rest of the episode saw George, Todd, and Brian receiving the heartbreaking news of Julie’s death.

Coronation Street fans are devastated by the conclusion to Julie Carp’s story, especially after learning about her terminal cancer diagnosis. Many viewers have expressed their heartbreak over the decision to write out such a beloved and lively character.
After Julie’s death scenes aired, fans took to social media to share their dismay. One fan commented: “I’m crying, what an emotional farewell for Julie. She was a bundle of joy on the Street who didn’t deserve this ending. But the performances from Julie and Eileen, and the scenes between them, were beautiful. Rest in peace, Julie Carp.”
Another fan on X shared: “Goodbye, Julie, you Corrie legend. Killing her off was absolutely the wrong decision!”
A third viewer added: “I’m not sure I’ll ever forgive Corrie for killing Julie off. To bring her back after 10 years just for such a short, heartbreaking storyline to help Eileen exit was unnecessary and cruel. Katy Cavanagh was, of course, excellent, as she always was.”
