Aidan Moore has remained unconscious in a coma since his debut on Emmerdale — but a significant clue may soon reveal who he really is. (Spoilers ahead.)
Aidan Moore’s storyline took a dramatic turn in Emmerdale on Tuesday (20 May) as he appeared to wake up from his coma. Up until now, Aidan has been hospital-bound, his unconscious state tied to John Sugden’s complex history.
John had previously disclosed that Aidan was once his fiancé, having met during their military service. He confided in others that they had maintained a relationship away from the scrutiny of their unit.
Their secret romance was rocked by tragedy when an operation went wrong, leaving Aidan critically injured and in a coma due to lack of oxygen to the brain – an incident John blames himself for not preventing.
Reflecting on the fateful day, John revealed: “I tried my best to save him. I told him I could but I was lying, I had to. I could see the fear in his eyes. I held his hand as he slowly slipped away.”

John regrets telling Aidan he could save him, a burden he carries heavily: “Aidan thought I could save him and I let him down. I can never forgive myself for that.”, reports the Mirror.
Furthermore, it’s unveiled that John has a dark past with attempts to save others, including Nate, whose fate was sealed by John’s hands in an unforeseen twist.
In a gripping close to tonight’s episode, as John lends support to an unwell Harry amid a slurry disaster, Cathleen remains vigilantly by her son Aidan’s side. Amidst the tension, Aidan’s eyes burst open, suggesting a riveting shift in the tale. Now that he’s out of his coma, what does he know about John – and has John been completely honest?
Observant fans notice that Aidan isn’t in the credits, despite just waking up. One viewer wrote on X, “Hmm Why is it Aiden is not listed on the credits & his mum is just there as ‘Cathleen’ with no surname? What are they hiding? The last time this happened was with Nicky when they were concealing he was Caleb’s son. Are Aiden & John married or is it something else?”
As mentioned by the eagle-eyed viewer, the last time a character was introduced without a surname in the credits was when Nicky – who was the nanny at Home Farm – arrived in the Dales, long before it was disclosed he was actually Caleb Milligan’s secret son.
Could this subtle hint in the credits be a sign that all is not as it appears with Aidan Moore, and what else is John concealing?
