The long-standing mystery about who the banker is on Channel 4’s Deal or No Deal has finally been solved — and it turns out to be a well-known Coronation Street actor. Fans of both iconic shows were stunned by the unexpected reveal.
After years of speculation, the secret identity of the elusive banker on Channel 4’s Deal or No Deal has finally been unveiled — and fans are stunned to learn it was none other than Coronation Street actor Glenn Hugill.
Glenn is best known for playing Detective Alan McKenna on the iconic soap between 1996 and 1997. Appearing in 86 episodes, Alan was romantically involved with Fiona Middleton and was set to marry her — until the big day was called off after Jim McDonald confessed to having an affair with Fiona, leading to Alan’s abrupt departure from Weatherfield.

Beyond Corrie, Hugill’s TV credits include appearances in shows like Dalziel and Pascoe, The Upper Hand, and Chandler and Co. In 2001, he made a move into presenting with The Mole. Over the years, Hugill transitioned into the production world, founding his company Possessed, which he sold to ITV in early 2023. Following the sale, he joined Wheelhouse, a media company created by U.S. host Jimmy Kimmel, serving as CCO. Before that, Glenn had been managing director of Possessed, helping it become one of the most successful production companies in the UK, according to The Mirror.
Remarkably, Hugill also has a brilliant mind. At age 10, he scored 207 on a national IQ test for children under 16 — the highest recorded result in the country. He later achieved a score of 177 on an adult IQ test, the maximum possible.

Hugill reportedly voiced the mysterious banker for a full decade during Deal or No Deal’s original run. However, it remains unknown who has taken on the role in the ITV revival hosted by Stephen Mulhern.
Interestingly, even Mulhern himself is kept in the dark about the banker’s current identity. “I don’t know who the Banker is,” he admitted. “So he could walk right past me, and I wouldn’t know.” While the voice on the other end of the phone is clearly male, Mulhern added, “Apparently, he listens in at the hotel where the contestants are staying. So when he calls, I just repeat whatever he says.”
