Fans slam EastEnders’ new look for the Queen Vic
The Queen Vic swung its doors open once again in EastEnders last night (Thursday, May 8), just in time to host a special event marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day. The iconic Walford pub had been closed for two months, reduced to rubble following a devastating explosion.
The disaster struck after a furious Cindy shoved her husband Ian into the path of Reiss Colwell’s car, enraged upon discovering that Kathy was the one who attacked her on Christmas Day.
When the vehicle slammed into a stack of gas canisters, a massive explosion erupted, leveling the Queen Vic. Tragically, Martin Fowler was among those trapped inside and lost his life in the collapse.

The Queen Vic officially reopened its doors on EastEnders last night.
Since the explosion, the pub had remained shut, with the Knights temporarily living at Sonia’s place while renovations were underway. Fortunately, the builders made fast progress, allowing George, Elaine, and the rest of the Knight clan to return home just in time.
To mark the big occasion (a little explosively, perhaps?), the family threw a VE Day bash to coincide with the reopening. The event featured a lively party and a heartfelt tribute to their much-missed Martin.
But while the celebration was grand, fans hoping for a sparkling, transformed Queen Vic were left deflated, with many reacting to the big reveal with a collective… wait, that’s it?

EastEnders fans left underwhelmed by the reveal of the revamped Queen Vic
As the newly renovated Queen Vic was unveiled during Thursday night’s EastEnders, viewers quickly took to social media to voice their reactions—and many were far from impressed.
Several fans pointed out that, despite the pub being completely rebuilt, it looked strikingly similar to how it did before the explosion.
One viewer wrote: “What was that?! A few weeks back, Linda hinted at Elaine’s flashy and bold taste in décor, teasing a dramatic transformation for the Vic—yet it’s basically unchanged.”
Another added: “Even the wallpaper is the same! It’s disappointing—they could’ve at least updated a few elements aside from some beer taps.”
A third chimed in: “This has to be the fastest reconstruction ever—only 79 days since it was destroyed, and it looks identical!”
A fourth echoed the sentiment: “I wasn’t expecting a modern wine bar vibe or anything, but having it look exactly the same just made the whole storyline feel silly. Couldn’t they have at least chosen a different colour scheme?”
