Coronation Street star Sonia Ibrahim has welcomed a baby boy and shared his sweet name in a recent post.

The actress announced the arrival of her son, Carter, in an update on social media.

Fans and fellow cast members quickly flooded the comments with messages of love and support for both mum and baby.

Coronation Street fans may remember Sonia for her role as Mel Maguire from 2016 to 2017. Mel worked at Nathan Curtis’ tanning salon and played a key part in the Bethany Platt grooming storyline.

Sonia is also recognised for her appearances in Waterloo Road as Jamilah Omar and in Hollyoaks as Kat Omari.

On Saturday, June 28, the actress took to Instagram to share a touching black-and-white photo of herself holding her newborn son.

She wrote: “Sunday 22nd June at 10:26pm my life became complete. My beautiful boy Carter Benjamin Machin arrived, 7lbs of pure perfection. You are loved more than you will ever know little man.”

In the heartfelt post, Sonia also tagged her partner Arron, as the couple celebrated the arrival of their baby boy.

After Sonia shared the joyful news of her son’s arrival, her television colleagues were quick to express their happiness for the growing family.

Angela Griffin, known for her role in Waterloo Road, added: “What joy!!!! Congratulations to you and your gorgeous family. Sending loads of love xxx”

Katie Griffiths, another Waterloo Road alum, commented: “Just beautiful! Sending love xx”

Hollyoaks actress Jessica Fox simply said: “Ohhhhhh congratulations.”

And Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon, who played Bethany Platt, shared: “Gorgeous, congratulations xxxxx”
