“Former Emmerdale star set to join rival soap just months after leaving ITV show”

“Daisy Campbell, former Emmerdale star, will return to screens this weekend – only months after being dropped from the popular ITV soap following a 13-year run.”

A former Emmerdale actress is set to return to TV, this time appearing on a rival network after leaving the ITV soap several months ago. Daisy Campbell, best known for playing Amelia Spencer in the Yorkshire-set drama, will be joining the BBC for a guest appearance in an upcoming episode of Casualty.

The 21-year-old will take on the role of Georgina Birch, though further information about her character is being kept under wraps until the episode is broadcast.

This new role marks Daisy Campbell’s first major TV appearance since departing Emmerdale last year, following a 13-year stint in the village. Her character was written out after all of her on-screen family members and ties had exited the series.

In an interview last October, Daisy shared that leaving Emmerdale was not her own decision. She admitted she was initially shocked and found it difficult to process after learning about her character’s exit during a private meeting. Her final scenes were broadcast shortly before Christmas, according to the Mirror.

Daisy, who joined the soap at just eight years old, revealed: “Leaving Emmerdale wasn’t my decision, and it came as a real shock. It’s the only thing I’ve ever known. I grew up on the show, spending my entire childhood there, so the idea of leaving felt overwhelming.”

She went on to say: “Once they explained it to me, I completely understood. Amelia isn’t a Dingle, her dad’s gone, Samson’s gone too, and she no longer has any family ties on the show.

“There wasn’t really anywhere left to take Amelia’s story, and I get that. I feel so fortunate to have spent 13 years on the soap and to have been given so many amazing opportunities from such a young age.”

Speaking about how only her close co-stars and friends—Rosie Bentham, Katie Hill, and Jack Downham—knew about her departure ahead of time, she shared: “They were really upset for me but incredibly supportive. I didn’t tell the rest of the cast right away because I needed time to come to terms with it all. I had to grieve the part of me that was Amelia.”

She admitted that the choice to exit was made by the producers, but she believes they’ve “done [her] a favour.” She went on to say, “I wouldn’t have left if they hadn’t decided there was nowhere left to develop Amelia’s character.”

“I’m thankful it was their decision and not mine. I now view it as a positive opportunity to challenge myself, begin a new chapter beyond Emmerdale, and hopefully explore some new roles. I’m genuinely excited for what the future has in store.”
